Eight and a Half & Plants and Animals at NXNE

Eight and a Half are a supergroup of sorts consisting of one member from The Stills, and the other two being members of the Broken Social Scene.
I have seen them before (as well as the other band performing that night, Plants and Animals) at Sonic Boom on Record Store Day. If it had not been for this experience, I probably wouldn't have gone to see them perform at Yonge-Dundas Square opening for Matthew Good. This was during the North By NorthEast (NXNE) festival that happens throughout downtown Toronto for a week.
Eight and a Half were very good in my opinion. I really enjoyed their performance and was so happy that I got to see them a second time! They are a really great band. Their sound includes indie rock infused with a synths and electronic element. I will admit that they were probably my favourites of the night. Even though Plants and Animals are a stellar band, I still loved getting to see this supergroup again. Sadly it did not seem that the audience shared my feelings towards the performance, with most of the people around me not being quite as into the songs.
I really hope that I get to see Eight and a Half yet another time, that is how good their music is!
As mentioned before, I also saw Plants and Animals at Sonic Boom for Record Store Day back in April. I had not listened to them much before, but after seeing them I got into their music.
Plants and Animals are a great band, with an indie rock sound. I was very happy that I got to see them for a second time, since there shows ooze with energy. This band was really able to get the crowd into their performance, and everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. There were actually quite a few people at the Yonge-Dundas show, who only went to see Plants and Animals.
All in all, Plants and Animals put on a great show and both bands were a great way for me to start off NXNE. I can't wait to see them for a third time, and hopefully I will see both of them at the same time again as well!
