Edgefest 2012 Highlights - Main stage

The Sheepdogs were the main reason that I had decided to attend Edgefest, as they are one of my all-time favourite bands. They are a great rock band from Saskatchewan, with a strong retro 70s vibe. I have seen The Sheepdogs before in Hamilton at Copps Coliseum, but they are one band that I would go see an infinite number of times. The Sheepdogs were great live, playing hits off of their album Learn & Burn and EP Five Easy Pieces, as well as new material that will be released on their forthcoming studio album. Including their just-released single, The Way It Is, which was produced by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys. With the new material that The Sheepdogs played at Edgefest, it is evident that they will only become even more popular with their third release. They are definitely a band to watch out for in the near future.
Silversun Pickups were the last act at Edgefest that I saw their full set. The band was a great way to end a day full of music with their catchy alternative rock. Silversun Pickups have received ever increasing popularity with the release of their third studio album, Neck of the Woods. Their set was full of energy and they included both new songs and old favourites in the performance. The band seemed to be genuinely happy that they were performing for the sea of people at Edgefest with all of them smiling almost non-stop throughout their set. The lead singer also kept referring to the band as "Sex Bob-omb" instead of the Silversun Pickups, in reference to the Scott Pilgrim comic book series turn movie, which is set in Toronto. I thought this was a nice and unique touch to the show, and a great way to thank the city for their support. Silversun Pickups are an awesome band and their latest album is fantastic.
