Wye Oak with The National

Wye Oak are from Baltimore, Maryland in the United States. After seeing this band/duo live, I decided to toss out all the presumptions I usually have about opening acts before a concert. It doesn't mean that I won't still be hesitant towards a new act, like I always am towards stuff I have never heard before but over the last few months the opening acts I have seen have turned out to be some of my new favourites, including Wye Oaks. The only terrible opening acts I have seen have been with the more "Top 40" artists that I have seen.
This indie folk rock duo with a The Besnard Lakes meets Nirvana sound have an incredible live sound and are very unique. The drummer of the duo also plays keyboards while drumming and provides backing vocals. This I thought was really cool and very talented! Their show was really good but sadly there weren't many people at the Air Canada Centre when they came on, there were only about 12 people on the floor and not many more in the stands. After their set I got myself a copy of their latest CD, Civilian and I suggest you pick up a copy yourself if you have the chance or at least try and catch them with The National or on their upcoming headlining tour of Europe.
