I have been able to see (and meet!) The Drums once before at their in-store at Sonic Boom back in October. They are now continuing to promote their sophomore album, Portamento on their Spring Tour 2012 throughout Canada, the USA and Japan. The band made a stop in Toronto at the end of April, which their concert was luckily changed to all-ages a couple weeks before the show - meaning I could finally see them perform a full length set!
The Drums had an amazing live show, and put on a great performance. They performed a good amount of songs from both of their albums, though there was the absence of material off of their debut EP on their setlist. The band has now changed considerably since there formation, and also since I first saw them a few months ago. Their guitarist Connor, is now touring instead with Pains of Being Pure at Heart, though his replacement, Charles Narwold from Plastic Flowers is also very good. Jonny Pierce, the lead singer, was of course great live with his unique dancing and stage presence, he also said "thank you" after every song which was a nice touch, and the audience really enjoyed this.
One of my favourite parts of the show was the band's encore. They played Searching For Heaven as the first song, which is a track off of Portamento with a different sound from their other material. Only Jonny Pierce and Jacob Graham were onstage for this song, and it was just amazing to see their live performance of it.
The Drums are most definitely an act to see live, and if you have not already heard of this band, you should for sure listen to them as soon as possible.
