Nightbox were one of the performers at the Pride Festival this year, a huge event in Toronto. I've seen them twice before both opening for Lights and at Sonic Boom during Canadian Music Week. They put on a great show including their usual energetic set, as well as two new songs that are to be featured on their forthcoming full-length album. Getting to hear fresh material was one of the highlights of the show. Their new songs keep the Nightbox style but also have a slightly different sound to them. They were not as upbeat as other Nightbox songs such as Utopia and Bears but the chorus of both were filled with catchy hooks, and the rhythms of the songs were great. Another highlight of the show was their outro, which is a staple of their live shows. It's a unique aspect to their live performance that always has me looking forwards to the end of their show. The band were billed after Corey Hart at the Pride Festival, so during the last song the lead singer put on sunglasses mentioning he 'wears his sunglasses at night', a reference to one of Hart's most popular songs.
Their new album is definitely going to be a record to look out for, if these new songs are any indication. If you have the chance this summer, check out Nightbox at one of their many Ontario shows, if you have not already seen them!
